Rudolf “Rudy” R. Schock, 82, Dickinson, died on Thursday, September 7, 2023 surrounded by his family at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Rudy’s Memorial Service will be 2 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2023 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Lisa  Lewton officiating.  Inurnment will take place at the Dickinson Cemetery. 

Rudolf Richard Schock was born February 12, 1941 in Elgin, the son of Arthur and Frieda (Weikum) Schock. He was raised and educated in Elgin. He had worked at Fettig Vault Company, the CCC’s at the Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge, plumbing, and custom combining.

While working as district manager for M & H in Billings he had to call a locksmith to unlock his vehicle. The locksmith charged him an “exorbitant amount of money” and Rudy decided to start locksmithing. He phased out of M & H, worked as a deputy with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office while taking locksmithing courses. In 1978, he started Rudy’s Lock & Key out of his house, eventually opening a storefront in the T-Rex Plaza, retiring in February 2011.

Rudy was united in marriage to Darlene Zimmerman on November 18, 1966 in Elgin. They moved to Miles City, MT where their son, Brian, was born. They later moved to Williston and then eventually to Dickinson where Rhonda, Ronald and Wil were born.

Rudy belonged to the Slope Area Rifle and Pistol Club, Dickinson Trap Club and the Elks. He enjoyed gardening, collecting tractors, antiques and coins. He loved dearly his grandkids and great-grandkids. In his retirement years, he enjoyed the morning and afternoon coffee groups.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Brian (Michelle) Schock, Dickinson, Rhonda (Lester) Dvorak, Dickinson, Ronald Schock, Dickinson, and Wil Schock, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Kali (Seth) Olin, David (Brittney) Dvorak, Collin (Emilee) Schock, Derek Dvorak, and Daniel Dvorak; great-grandchildren, Maxwell Schock, Lillianna Olin, Alexander Schock, and Everett Dvorak; siblings, Alverna (Wayne) Jacobs, Huntington Beach, CA, Elaine (Don) Dvorak, Dickinson, and Ruby (Greg) Marthaler, Highlands Ranch, CO; sister-in-law, Gloria Schock, Elgin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman; nephew, Michael Dvorak; and his in-laws, Elvina and Edwin Zimmerman.
