Shawn Pierre Jalbert was born in Dickinson on February 8, 1968, to Archie and Leona (Gartner) Jalbert. Shawn was the youngest of ten children and grew up on the family farm south of New England. He attended school in New England and Mott. While growing up, Shawn was involved in 4-H and basketball. He enjoyed fishing, drawing, and being at home on the farm. He loved dogs and it was evident they loved him in return.

Shawn lived many years in Minot. He worked in service positions at Minot State University, various restaurants, and for a local church. While in Minot, Shawn enjoyed swimming, watching drag races and sporting events, playing pool, going to movies, and visiting the zoo. Shawn enjoyed traveling. He took trips to Medora, Minnesota, Washington D.C., and Atlanta, GA. He also found pleasure in going for a drive to see new things. He especially liked to visit the family farm.

Even though Shawn persevered through many difficulties in his life, he was known for his big heart and caring spirit. He was a quiet caretaker to many others. Shawn had a special relationship with his brother Jody, who was a constant, supportive presence in his life.

Shawn is survived by his siblings, Jon Jalbert of Dickinson, Kathy (Duane) Jesch of St. Augusta, MN, Colette (Allen) Ensign of Dickinson, Rachelle (Rex) Langston of Newnan, GA, Janel Frank of Bismarck, Jody (Nancy) Jalbert of Bismarck, Jamie (Tammy) Jalbert of Dickinson, Melanie (Lee) Kathrein of Dickinson, and Lisa (Larry) Heiser of Dickinson; many nieces and nephews, and special family friend Bethol Knutson of Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Shawn’s family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care he received at Trinity Hospital in Minot and Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Shawn was a kind and generous soul. He was able to save three lives through organ donation which brings his family great comfort, knowing that a part of Shawn lives on.

Memorial donations may be made to Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation or LifeSource, both in Minneapolis, MN.
