Shirley A. Nodland was born July 7, 1936 on the family farm near Werner, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Pollestad) Nodland. She was raised in the Werner area and attended the Eagle Nest School that was one mile east of the farm.

Shirley married Harry W. Dahlen on June 12, 1963 at Vang Lutheran Church south of Dunn Center. Together they farmed and ranched on the Nodland home place where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Shirley was very involved in her church, where she belonged to the WELCA, the serving committee, taught vacation bible school and Sunday school. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. In spare time she enjoyed embroidery, working in the garden, caring for the chickens and other farm yard animals and being in the out doors. Shirley loved to cook and bake, the house was never without the smells of something freshly made.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Diane (Gordon) Weixel, Bismarck, Neil Dahlen, Halliday, and Laurie Dahlen, Hebron; three precious grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua and Heather Weixel; two sisters, Bernice Fisher and Adele Sayler, Washburn; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Nodland, Dickinson; aunt and uncle, Ruby and Paul Paulson, Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry on January 11, 2005; her parents; three brothers, Arnold, Clinton and Bernard; two brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
