Shirley Kaufman was born March 22, 1931 at Richardton to Nick and Theresa (Garecht) Kaufman. She attended St. Mary’s grade school and high school, Richardton. Shirley married Roy Schubert at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton on November 20, 1951. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley worked at the Memorial Hospital, Richardton for many years cooking and cleaning. Her grandchildren were her prized possessions. Her life passion was taking care of children and as her own had grown up and moved on, she would then spend her early retirement years babysitting many other children within the local area. With all the kids that she took care of throughout her life, each and everyone of them touched her heart in a special way as it showed with the many pictures, drawing ect., that she had displayed on her refrigerator.

When Shirley was not babysitting kids, she could be found dog sitting. She was an avid gardener, always working in her yard planting flowers and trees. She also loved to knit and crochet in her free time. She has made over 500 baby blankets that are in the hands of relatives across many generations located in many of the states across the United States. Shirley was an avid cook and really loved to bake. No family member ever went home empty handed after a family gathering. If a friend or neighbor stopped in on a gathering day, they too would always go home with a plate in hand.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Roy; four children, Roger, Richardton, Linda (Steve) Wanner, Sacramento, Calif., Bruce (Cheri), Sacramento, Calif., and Gerald (Yvette), Dickinson; four grandchildren, Jason and Nicole Wanner and Tristan and Sienna Schubert and one brother Nick “Melvin” (Barbara) Kaufman, Pierre, SD.
