Stephen Randolph Douthit was born on January 30, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of William and Elizabeth (Bruner) Douthit. In the fall of 1967 the family moved to Dickinson. It has been his home since.

Steve graduated from Dickinson High School in 1981. He attended Dickinson State College for two years and always spoke fondly of the campus and the many people he had met through his time there. On June 7, 1987, he was married to Johnna Moos. They had two sons, Christopher and Benjamin.

Steve held various positions, however it was his work as a FedEx Ground driver for the past 20 years he found to be his dream job. What began as a delivery route to southwest North Dakota and eastern Montana became a daily commute to Baker, Montana, and the surrounding area. He thought so highly of Baker, the family often joked with him about being the mayor. His dedication to his work was most evident during the holiday season – he would call customers in advance of a delivery to check if gift packages for children should be hidden or placed with the other packages. It was this and his kind ways that gave him many friends from Montana.

Steve was a passionate University of North Dakota football fan. He traveled to all the home games and destination away games. Steve developed lasting friendships with those who tailgated nearby. The coaching staff said Steve was “the kind of fan this team appreciates.” No pre-game was complete without a conversation with Steve.

When his sons were growing up and involved in sports he gave back by coaching Mustang Baseball, he donated to school fundraisers and gave money for coat drives.  He would volunteer at school play days, making water runs to Culligan for delivery to schools.

He enjoyed listening to music and would bring the food and a speaker to sons’ and nephew’s  sports tailgate events.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Johnna Douthit, Dickinson; sons, Christopher (Shelby) Douthit (Keegan and Reeves), Dickinson, and Benjamin (Justice) Douthit (Kyree and Harrison), Fargo; siblings, Vicki (Bob) Siefken, Dickinson, and Chris (Kate) Douthit, Grand Forks; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Siefken, Jessica Siefken, Robert (Abbey Dahl) Siefken, Mollie (Arvid Haag) Douthit, Margaret (John) Oelke (Ann and Rosie), Valerie Martinez (Lilliana), Elizabeth (Joe) Devencenzi (Laila and Levi).

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth Douthit, in-laws Elmer and Irene Moos; brothers, Kincel, Richard, and Robert; and great-nephew, John Spencer Reimer II.
