Steve Schwindt, 95, Dickinson, died Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Steve’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, there will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.

Steve was born February 3, 1916 on the family farm at New Hradec. He was raised in the New Hradec area as the 11th of 12 children of Frank and Barbara (Fischer) Schwindt.

He married Bridget Kary on March 26, 1940 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Fayette. Steve worked various jobs as a ship welder on the west coast and local carpentry before returning to his farm southwest of Killdeer. He farmed and ranched for 40 years, raising registered Angus cattle and Quarter horses.

Steve and Bridget retired to Dickinson where he delivered Meals-0n-Wheels, volunteered at AMEN Food Pantry, House of Manna and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He especially enjoyed playing the accordion for the local nursing homes. He was a faithful Mass server, leader of the rosary, worked on the buildings and grounds at St. Patrick’s. Steve was a 4-H leader for Dunn County for four years.

He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, St. Anthony and Eagles. He enjoyed woodworking, horses, fishing, playing the accordion at the nursing homes.

Steve is survived by wife, Bridget; eight children, Stephanie (Victor) Krehlik, Minot, Aloysius (Marilyn) Schwindt, Fargo, Michael (Sharon) Schwindt, Bismarck, Francis (Carey) Schwindt, Bismarck, Koletta (LeRoy) Ficek, Minot, Steven Schwindt, Dickinson, Carla (Duff) Donelson, Dickinson, and Brian (Kirsten) Schwindt, Bismarck; one son-in-law, Gary Moore; one sister-in-law, Katherine Murphy; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandson.

Steve was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony and Jonathan: two daughters, Mary and Bridget and all of his siblings, Peter, Leonard, John, Andrew, Erasmus, Joseph, Frank, Katherine Braun, Sister Hildegard (Anna), Sister Helen (Genevieve), and Rose Reiter.
