In Jamestown on February 22, 1955, Shelby and Dorothy Smith had their first child Steven DeLand Smith. Steven was raised in Edgeley for most of his childhood and loved spending time at the farm with his grandmother, Haydle Smith. Steven, his parents, and his siblings moved to Bottineau. Steven attended and graduated from Bottineau High School in 1973. While he was there, he found his talent for wrestling. This landed him a scholarship to MSU-Bottineau. Steven loved to tell stories about his childhood and was very proud of his wrestling accomplishments.
But Steven’s greatest story was how he met the love of his life Tamara Renae Kringen. She was cruising down the street in her parents’ station wagon and Steven jumped in the back seat. And down the road they went for almost 49 years. On September 28, 1974, they were married. Steven and Tammy resided in South Heart for many years where they raised their six children.
In 2006, Steven moved to Dickinson with his family. Steven owned and operated his own semi-truck hauling cattle for most of his career. He has owned a firework stand in Dickinson for the past eight years and loved doing the business with his family. Steven loved gardening, planting trees, and yard work. Steven was very passionate about his faith. He became a deacon at Faith Community Bible Church. God, his wife, and the family he created, were Steve’s greatest treasures.
Steven is survived by his wife, Tammy; son, Steve Smith Jr., Dickinson; daughter, Alyson (Jeremy) Lippert, Dickinson; son, Brent (Jen) Smith, Dickinson, daughter, Alyssa (Jake) Krause, Dickinson, and son, Kendahl Smith, Dickinson; grandchildren, Kenadee Fritz, Alyvia Lippert, Alayna Lippert, and Hayes Lippert; sister, Jeanne Smith, Bottineau; and brother, Shelby Smith, Bottineau.
