Sydney E. Messmer, 52, Dickinson, ND died Friday, September 14, 2007 at MedCenter One, Bismarck, ND. Syd’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Ray Jilek presiding.

Sydney Ernest Messmer was born June 22, 1955 in Dickinson the son of Ernest L. and Pauline E. (Biel) Messmer. He was raised and educated in Dickinson having received his education through the Catholic school system, graduating from Trinity High School in 1973.

Syd began working for TMI in Dickinson in 1973 and remained with them until 1980. During this time he had also attended North Dakota State School Science in Wahpeton where he received a degree in Architectural Drafting. Syd went to work in the oil field industry until 1987 when he returned to TMI. He has been at TMI since working in the engineering department as a draftsman. He had married Jill Bohrer in Dickinson.

Syd enjoyed camping, boating, riding motorcycle, all types of sports and had participated in bowling. He was very creative and artistic in areas like painting, sketching, carpentry and motor vehicle detailing.

Syd loved and cherished his children and grandchildren, Ryan (Stacie) Messmer and daughters, Rya and Steja all of Surprise, AZ, and Ashley Messmer, Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his parents, Ernie and Pauline Messmer, Dickinson; five sisters, Kathy (Tim) Hoyt, Dickinson, Bev (Jay) Tooley, Dickinson, Jonella (Kelly) Snyder, Hazen, ND, Nadine (Lance) Scranton, Craig, CO, and Tina (Pete) Krieg, Peachtree City, GA; three brothers, Jeff (Karen) Messmer, Des Moines, IA, Joel (Sheila) Messmer, Aurora, CO, and Dana (Cassandra) Messmer, Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, an infant sister, Mary Kathryn, and two uncles.
