Thomas John Wanner, 74, Dickinson, died on Friday, March 7, 2025 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. A Celebration of Life Service for Thomas will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Inurnment will take place at the Dickinson Mausoleum.
Thomas John Wanner was born on June 12, 1950 to John Jr. and Marie (Oster) Wanner. Tom attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Trinity High School in 1968. Tom married Gayleen Marie Kostelecky on August 14, 1971.
Tom’s first job was a shoe shine boy, then he worked at Dinsdales Texaco, Wanner Hardware and Plumbing and eventually he started his own company: Tom Wanner Plumbing and ran his business until 1999. Ultimately he retired from CA Contracting in 2016. He also served the Dickinson Rural Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 34 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, golf, bowling, hunting, taking care of his yard, traveling, his 1969 Mach I and 1977 Fiat Spider, traveling in a band called The Reflections when he was 14 years old playing bass guitar, playing co-ed softball, camping and slot machines. He loved to get to know people and any interaction with him could easily turn into a two hour conversation. He was very well known and respected in the community and served many local households and businesses in his 50+ years as a plumber. He was able to enjoy five years of retirement before dementia unfortunately reared its ugly head three years ago. He was very loved and will be missed dearly by so many. His family and friends are finding peace that he is no longer suffering and has been called home to the Lord.
Tom is survived by his wife, Gayleen; three children, Thomas Jr. (Lynnett), Corey, and Erin Wanner; three grandchildren, Allison Taylor (Chris), Nathan (Tate), and Elyjah; two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Josie (due June 2025) Taylor; three brothers, Rich, Pat (Elaine), and Odie (Adrianne) Wanner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Home on the Range.
