Tommy “Tom” James Ennis passed away August 25, 2025 at St. Luke’s Home, in Dickinson where he had resided the last three years. Tom’s interment was Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Donnybrook Community Cemetery with Reverend David Berg performing burial rites with Military Honors provided by the Donnybrook American Legion Post. No other services will be held.
Prior to living there, Tom had resided at Valley City, Minot, Williston and Fargo.
Tom was born October 14, 1953 in Kenmare, with family residing on the Donnybrook farm. His parents were Jim and Madonna (Lawson) Ennis and he joined his oldest sister Beverly, and older brother Ed. He later was joined by brother Jimmy and sister Sharon.
The family moved in his adolescent years to Williston, Stanley, Donnybrook, Tioga, Seattle, WA, and Ray, where Tom graduated High School in 1971. Tom had a short stint of college at Williston and then went working construction. Tom served in the US Army and later had a relationship with Joyce Kitson which resulted in the birth of their two daughters: Sharon and Rhea (whom he was very proud of).
Tom continued working construction in the Fargo area, but life took its toll and Tom was forced to go on disability. He returned to Williston, where his folks had settled and stayed, after his father’s passing in 1994. Tom’s life turned into a struggle with the mental burdens he suffered in earlier life. He was unable to find relief from and turned to alcohol to sooth his mental and physical pains.
His brother Ed became his Guardian in 2017 and was able to get him into home care facilities. Tom continued his personal struggles and refused opportunities for comfort. Tom was determined to live his life on his terms, regardless of his suffering, which he did to his end of life. His family is grateful for the Lord taking him home and ending his hardships on this Earth.
Those welcoming him into eternal care are his parents, grandparents, and sister, Sharon. Those surviving Tom are his daughter, Rhea (Cody) Kittleson, Bismarck; ex-son-in-law, Ted Kelly; and grandchildren, Teron, Annalise and Avery, all of Bismarck; daughter, Sharon, Portland, OR.; sister, Beverly (Jerry) Vig and family, Grand Junction, CO; brothers, Ed, Williston, and Jim (Jane) and family, Clarksville, MD.
The family is grateful to Ladbury Funeral Service for assisting with arrangements.
