Verna J. McCollum, 45, Dickinson, N.D., died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at her home as the result of an accident. Verna’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Break Forth Bible Church, Dickinson with Rev. Pep Waples officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.
Verna was born Dec. 20, 1962 at Chester, Mont. to Vernon and Beverly (Falla) Moog. She attended elementary school and three years of high school at Inverness, Mont.. She graduated in 1981 at J.I. High School in Joplin, Mont.. While in high school she was very active in sports, basketball, track, & gymnastics. She graduated in 1983 from Northern Montana College in Havre, Mont. with a degree in paralegal.
Following her graduation from high school she worked at Glasgow, Mont for a time, then as a nanny in Boston, Mass.. She also worked for awhile for the Coast Guard in Boston. After two years in Boston, Verna returned to Montana where she lived in Chester and worked as a paralegal. Here she met her future husband Brian McCollum and they were married on April 8, 1995.
Brian and Verna moved to Dickinson in July 1997. Verna was active in her children’s lives and activities, such as, 4-H, Showdeo and rodeo, saddle clubs and helping in their schools when possible. She enjoyed tending to and caring for their own animals and the ranch. Visiting with her family, shopping “browsing”, horse sales and shows brought great enjoyment.
Verna was preceded in death by both her maternal and paternal grandparents, J.M. and Eva Falla and Otto and Irene Moog, a sister Rosanne Wasson in 1999.
She is survived by her husband Brian and their three children Andrew, Heather and Christa McCollum of Dickinson; three step-children, Jamie, Jessica and Jennifer; her parents Vernon and Beverly (Falla) Moog of Inverness, MT; 11 brothers and sisters, Ken (Lita) Moog, Joplin, Mont., Patty (Dave) Burleson, Hill City, S.D., Rita (Greg) Davis, Missoula, Mont., Lorraine Moog, Havre, Mont., Debbie Moog, Billings, Mont., Angie (Gene) Cantley, Great Falls, Mont., Joe Moog, Billings, Mont., Chris Moog, Suwannee, GA., Tony (Tiffany) Moog, Clancy, Mont., Nick Moog, Inverness, Mont., and Julie Moog, Englewood, Colo.; brother-in-law Randy Wasson and family, Topeka, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
