Vernon F. Hagen, 82, Dickinson, ND, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Vernon’s memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Reeder, ND, with Rev. Ron Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Reeder, with Military Honors provided by the Reeder American Legion, Carl Hendrickson Post #51. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Vernon Fancher Hagen was born June 9, 1924 in Missoula, MT, the son of Henry and Olive (Fancher) Hagen. He served in the United States Army during WW II.

Vernon married Florence Braxmeier in 1947 at Dickinson. Vernon had a Bachelors Degree and earned a Masters Degree in School Administration from the University of Oregon. He had served as Administrator of Schools at Scranton, ND, Wyndmere, ND, and Superintendent of Schools in Grenora, ND. He retired from the Milwaukee Public Museum and they moved to a 12 acre section in the Black Hills where they raised and trained Quarter Horses and he perfected his turkey calling techniques.

Vernon and his bride of over 50 years moved back to Dickinson in 2001. They lived at Park Avenue Villa, Evergreen and the Country House over the last few years, and he attended St. John Lutheran Church.

Vernon enjoyed science, politics, raising and training horses, hunting and fishing when they were biting real good.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Florence; one son, David Hagen, Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Aric Thorstad, Tara Collins and James Hagen; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Sally) Hagen, Fresno, CA, and Keith (Grace) Hagen, Reeder; and one sister-in-law, Leone Hagen, Reeder. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Laurel Thorstad and Kathy Hagen, and his brother, Elmer Hagen.
