Victor M. Rohr, 85, Dickinson, ND, died Friday, January 5, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Victor’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A.M., Monday, January 8, 2007 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gladstone, with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery with a military flag presentation provided by the Veterans Drill Team. Visitation will be from 12 P.M. to 9 P.M., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be no visitation at the church. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7:30 P.M., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Victor M. Rohr was born August 5, 1921 in Stark County of North Dakota to Anton and Anna (Herr) Rohr. He was the oldest son in a family of nine girls and two boys. Growing up north of Gladstone he attended country school in the Alfa District, Gladstone High School and N.Y.A. at NDSU in Fargo. In 1942 Victor joined the US Navy where he served as an Arial Tail Gunner in WWII, earning his Golden Wings, and being honorably discharged in March of 1946.
On October 22, 1946 he married the love of his life, Barbara Krous at St. Thomas Catholic Church. They started their farming career in the Dodge and Golden Valley area. In the spring of 1948 Victor rented the Ben Dahlke farm in Dunn County, buying it several years later. It was there that they raised their four children, Lonie, Lilah, Lanel and Lanet. Together the family grain farmed, dairyed and ranched. Victor loved raising polled red shorthorn, winning many blue ribbons. In 1987 they retired to a hobby farm east of Dickinson raising llamas and miniature horses.
Victor was an exceptional loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always there for his children and was deeply loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing to old time and country music. Victor was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Elks, a life time member of St. Thomas Church where he served on the council and cemetery board.
Victor was an honorable man who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara; their four children, Lonie (Donna) Rohr, Gladstone, Lilah (Alan) Krebs, Gladstone, Lanel (Terry) Buechler, Dickinson, and Lanet (Steve) Scherr, Dickinson; 13 grandchildren, Tracy and Brad Rohr, Tammy (Scott) Krebs Crockett, Laura (Lucas) Krebs Gregory, Corey (Salina) Krebs, Kyle, Brittney and BreeAnn Krebs, Levi and Ali Buechler, Jessica, Stephanie and Alex Scherr; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Chandler and Issac Gregory, Katelyn and Tyler Crockett; one brother, Richard (Angie) Rohr, Dickinson; and four sisters, Margaret Martin, Mott, Christina Messmer, Lemmon, SD, Janet (Frank) Sickler, Dickinson, and Charlene Frank, Glendive, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lena Martin, Alvina Messmer, Viola Sickler, Sue Meissner and Ann Hollinger; and twin grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Scherr. Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
