Victor W. Dvorak, 85, Dickinson, died Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Victor’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant, Fr. Patrick Moore, OSB as concelebrant, and assisted by Deacon Victor Dvorak. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team.
Victor W. Dvorak was born July 4, 1926 to Frank and Barbara (Peterle) Dvorak on the family farm south of Dickinson. Upon completing his education in country school, Victor worked on the farm until joining the US Army in September 1944. Victor served in the Philippine Islands and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge in November 1946, Victor returned to North Dakota and continued working the family farm, which he later purchased from his father. He married Rose Schmidt on June 6, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. Victor semi-retired in June 2000 but remained active in farming. Victor moved to Evergreen Dickinson in October 2010 and then to St. Benedict’s Health Center in May 2011. Victor and Rose celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 6, 2011.
Victor was a member of VFW, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking but time with his family was his greatest delight.
Victor is survived by his wife, Rose, Dickinson; ten children, Victor F. (Lynn), New England, Lena (Brad) Greff, Mott, Adrian (Linda), Bismarck, Barbara (Steve) Stegmiller, Mandan, Veronica (Steve) Sullivan, Oklahoma City, Okla., Teresa (Stuart) Nielsen, New England, Loretta (Steve) Maher, Mandan, Lawrence, Bismarck, Lydia (John) Estep, Wheeling, W. Va., and Lester (Rhonda), Dickinson; 35 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Rosalie, one infant son, Arnold, four brothers, four sisters, and one daughter-in-law, Brenda.
