On September 4, 2017, Vincent J. Binstock attended chapel services at St. Benedict’s Health Center with his grandson Eric. They prayed the rosary and received Holy Communion. Shortly thereafter, Vince went peacefully to his Lord. He was 92.
Vincent’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant and Fr. Shannon Lucht as con-celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post 144. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church.
Vincent J. Binstock was born May 29, 1925 to Clement and Theresa (Huschka) Binstock. He was raised on the family farm south of South Heart and attended South Heart High School. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and upon discharge worked at Adamski’s Grocery Store. On June 10, 1947, Vince married Mary Ann Anderson at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield. Shortly after they were married, Vince and Mary Ann purchased her parents farm where they raised their four children. He worked long hours alongside his wife and children on the diversified farm which consisted of grain farming and a dairy and beef operation. Vince and Mary Ann were recipients of several Western Soil Conservation District soil achievement awards.
Vince and Mary Ann moved to Hawks Point in 2009. Vince found it difficult to leave the farm, but was proud that his son Alvin and his family and daughter Rhonda and her family continued his farming operation. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their family on June 10, 2012. Vince remained at Hawks Point after Mary Ann’s death in 2013, until he moved to St. Benedict’s in 2014.
Vince loved his occupation and was partial to the Hereford breed of cattle. He loved to engage in conversation especially ones that involved agriculture. He was interested in everyone he met and had a remarkable ability to remember names. He took special interest in and always found time for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished visiting with them. He was an avid pinochle player and he and Mary Ann belonged to several card clubs.
Vince was a lifetime member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks and German Hungarian Club and served as an officer on the Stark County Agricultural Stabilization Committee.
Vince is survived by two sons, Terry (Jan) Robbinsdale, Minn. and Alvin (Laurel), South Heart; daughter, Rhonda (Neal) Steffan, South Heart; son-in-law, Galen Steffan, Dickinson; sister, Eva (Louie) Kuylen; sisters-in-law, Eva Binstock and Ann Binstock; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren (with another one coming soon) and many nieces and nephews.
Vince was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann on January 2, 2013; daughters, Nancy and Mavis; grandson, Adam Binstock; siblings, Louie Binstock, Anna (Jerome) Decker, Fritz Binstock, Clement (Cecelia) Binstock, Ralph Binstock, Regina (Tony) Froehlich, Anastasia (Steve) Kordonowy, Lena (Art) Helfrich and Theresa (Ben) Lantz; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edith (Joe) Miller, Dorothy (Leo) Schaan and Leo (Olga) Anderson.
Loved by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many relatives and friends, Vince will be deeply missed.
