Viola Sand April 1, 1924 - December 24, 2013

Viola Sand, 89, Dickinson, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Viola Schulz was born April 1, 1924 at Richardton, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Kuntz) Schulz. She was raised and educated south of Richardton.

Viola married Herman Sand on September 17, 1946 in Richardton. They lived in Dickinson for 20 years prior to moving to Seattle, Wash., where they remained for the next 36 years. Viola returned to North Dakota, having lived in Bismarck and Dickinson for the past 11 years. She loved being a housewife and mother taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting.

Viola is survived by her six children, Pauline Austin, Seattle, Wash., Glenn (Helen) Sand, Peoria, Ariz., Harlan Sand, Sagle, Idaho, Calvin Sand, Bonney Lake, Wash., Rodney (Kathleen) Sand, Tacoma, Wash., and Russell (Cindi) Sand, Perkinston, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 siblings, Pauline (Albert) Lantz, Gladys Rummel, MaryAnn (Chuck) Hoff, Delores (Elmer) Weige, Geraldine (Phil) Grayson, Dorothy (Bernie) Buresh, Jim Schulz, Mike (Margaret) Schulz, Kathleen Lindeman, Ralph (Alice) Schulz, Inez (Merle) Hamann, and Jakie (Ralph) Messmer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; her parents; and her siblings, Alfred Schulz, Bernice Harrington, Willie Schulz, Elsie Maershbecker, and Agnes Heidecker.
