Walter Miller, 81, Richardton, ND, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Richardton Memorial Hospital & Health Center following a six year battle with cancer and also Alzheimer’s. Walter’s Mass of Christian Burial be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday and also one hour prior to services on Monday. There will be a prayer service at 3 p.m., Saturday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Rev. Michael Wolters presiding, and a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Sunday at the church.

Walter Miller was born January 1, 1926, the son of Emanuel and Martha (Oster) Miller of Hazen, ND. He attended school in Hazen from the first through the eighth grade.

Walt was united in marriage to Dorothy (Grasser) Hauck on November 30, 1974 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He has lived in Richardton all of his married life. Walt worked in Hazen for Ritter Construction and farmed his mother’s land in Hazen. He also farmed near Richardton for a short time. Later, he worked for Fisher Sand and Gravel, retiring in 1988.

Walt was a member of the Eagles Club, St. Anthony Club, and Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Walt is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five step-children, Eugene Hauck, Dickinson, Gerald Hauck, The Philippine Islands, Charlotte (Ambrose) Hoff, Richardton, Bonnie (Stan) Case, Hutchinson, MN, and Dorie (Dave) Kandler, Lakeville, MN; eight siblings, Euginia Ronghalt, Ruth Ellwein, Elmer (Ilene) Miller, Clarence Miller, Eileen (Bernie) Keller, Eldora (Levi) Sailer, Laura (Norman) Mehlhoff and Larry (Sheila) Miller; one brother-in-law, Reuben Reinhardt; one sister-in-law, Viola Miller; 13 grandchildren, Jim (Tracy) Hauck, Tracy (ReNee) Hauck, Justin (Michelle) Hauck, Douglas Hauck, Jody (Marla) Hoff, Tanja (Ryan) Goellner, Daneen (Ty) Dressler, Kalvin Hoff, Kristie (Nils Hoeger-Lerdal) Case, Nathan Case, Blaize Kandler, Talon Kandler and Kaden Kandler; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Edna Reinhardt, an infant sister, one brother, Clifford Miller, brother-in-law, Rueben Ellwein, and one grandson, Dean Hoff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Richardton Memorial Hospital & Health Center.
