Wendell H. “Woody” Woodworth, 85, Dickinson, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at his home with his family at his side. There will be a private family service was held Monday, September 29, 2014 with inurnment at the Dickinson Cemetery.
Woody, son of James C. and Mary Woodworth, was born April 28, 1929, in LeRoy, Minn. He was educated in rural schools, graduating from Nashua High School (Iowa) in 1947. Wendell married Jeanette Copenhaver on August 2, 1948. To this union three children were born: Greg, Patricia and Brent.
The family moved to South Heart from Iowa in 1955, where Woody began Dakota Honey Company. In 1957, Woodworths moved to Dickinson, where the beekeeping business continued to grow.
Woody had a love of flying, having first soloed at age 16. He also enjoyed trapping, fly fishing, and hunting. Woody was a life-long beekeeper; he developed many innovative ideas contributing much to the beekeeping industry.
Woody is survived by his wife, Jeanette, Dickinson; three children, Greg (Shelley), Helena, Mont., Pat Morgan, Lakeside, Mont., and Brent (Bonnie), Halliday; sister, Marilyn, Fargo; sister-in-law, Margie, Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lyle Cagley and Jeanie Cagley, Walnut Grove, Calif.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter; son-in-law, Jim Morgan; brother, DeLoss; granddaughter, Michelle; and great-grandson, Jason.
