Wilbert T. Mayer was born on September 22, 1929 in Hebron, the son of Reinhold and Helen (Vietz) Mayer. He grew up on the family farm south of Antelope and attended country school near the family farm where he completed the eighth grade.

Wilbert married Agnes Klein on November 20, 1951 in Hebron and to this union six children were born, Gary, Dale, Lyle, Jeff, Donna and Scott. Wilbert and Agnes ran the family farm until their retirement in 1986. Following retirement, they moved to Dickinson where Wilbert continued to keep busy helping farmers with harvest, mowing grass for the City of Dickinson and transporting vehicles for Dan Porter Motors.

He came from a very musical family. Wilbert spent many hours playing the drums and he played in several dance bands. He was active in the Eagles Club and St. Anthony Club.

He enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, fishing with his wife and then later with his son, Gary. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife and he was a wonderful dancer (yipping and yelping). He loved to tell jokes and always enjoyed sitting by a campfire and camping. Wilbert moved to Park Avenue Assisted Living in 2012.

Wilbert is survived by his children, Gary (Julie) Mayer, Dickinson, Lyle Mayer, Hawaii, Donna (Greg) Montalvo, Minnesota, and Scott (Brenda) Mayer, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Michelle Mayer, Dickinson; siblings, Reiny Mayer, Dickinson, Lorraine (Bob) Angelotti, Florida, and Edgar (Joy) Mayer, Washington; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
