William “Bill” Winczewski, 87, Dickinson, died Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home, Glendive, MT. Bill’s Liturgy of Word Service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Interment will take place at the Bowman Cemetery, Bowman, ND. Military flag presentation will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard.

William Winczewski was born September 27, 1935 at Dickinson, the son of Charles and Rose (Doroff) Winczewski. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, graduating in 1954. He went on to attend Dickinson State Teachers College where he participated on the 1955 Hall of Fame Football team. During high school he worked at Winky’s Ice Cream Shop that was owned by his dad.

Bill went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy in the Pacific Region from October 18, 1955 to September 17, 1959.

Bill was united in marriage to Shirley Siedschlaw on March 23, 1962 in Bowman. Together they made a home in Dickinson where they raised three children. He worked a 35 year career with Northwestern Bell.

He was a volunteer firefighter, member of the Elks, Jaycees, Knights of Columbus and a long time member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting gamebirds and deer, fishing and camping at Lake Sakakawea. Enjoyed gardening, carpentry work, going on cruises, and trips to Alaska with his sister and brother-in-law.

Bill is survived by his children, Brad Winczewski, Schaumburg, IL, Kari (Kelly) McNary, Wahpeton, and Todd (Leslie Larkins) Winczewski, Granby, CO; four grandchildren, Lauren Winczewski, Allen Winczewski, Kaitlin McNary and Kameron McNary; sister-in-law, Roberta Engesser; brother-in-law, John Heming; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley on April 5, 2020; his parents; sisters, Fritzie (Ralph) Jahner, and Marian (Ray) Nelson; brother, Harold Winczewski; and several sisters and brothers-in-law.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the entire staff at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home, for their compassionate care of Bill over the past years.
