United States Veteran William F. “Bill” Reiter, 82, formerly of Dickinson, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Thornton, Colo. Bill’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors provided by the Dickinson Veterans Honors Team following the Mass. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding.

Bill was born October 5, 1926 in Zenith, North Dakota to Ben Reiter and Rose (Schwindt) Reiter. He joined the Army in 1947 serving 4 years during the Korean Conflict. He joined the National Guard in 1957 serving a total of 26 years in the military. He went to the Wahpeton School of Science for a Diesel Mechanic Degree and worked for Hauck Transportation in Glendive, Mont. In 1968 he moved to the farm located 3.5 miles northeast of Dickinson and began working at Husky Industries operating heavy equipment for 26 years. He retired and served eight years as an Honor Guard. He was a member of the St. Anthony, VFW and was a Veterans Color Guard Drill Team Member.

Bill was united in marriage to Joyce Decker on February 20, 1952. To this union, three children were born, Curtis, Brian and Dean.

He is survived by his son Curtis, Dickinson, son Dean and wife Kristi, Burlington, daughter-in-law Charlotte and husband Roger Barnes, Commerce City, Colo.; two grandchildren, Nicole and James; one brother Ras and wife Jan, Dickinson; and one sister Josephine Highness, Dickinson; brothers-in-law Gil Sproul, Floyd Carpenter and Herb Pegg; and sisters-in-law Olga Reiter, Edna Carpenter and Bev Pegg. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son Brian, brothers Tony, Leonard, Louie and George; and sisters Barbara Sproul and Mary Linhart.
