William P. “Bill” Schwartz, 73, Dickinson, died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Sanford off Sunset, Mandan. Bill’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday, February 20, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with Deacon Doug Helbing presiding, and with military honors provided by the Bismarck VFW Post.

William Peter Schwartz was born July 16, 1941 in Belfield, the son of Carl and Helen (Duerr) Schwartz. He graduated from Dickinson High School in 1959, and joined the United States Navy, where he served many tours overseas.

On August 1, 1970 he was united in marriage to Sharon Beaudoin at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He then joined the United States Army in 1971 and had served honorably on several different posts, one being Fort Polk, La., where his oldest daughter was born. Bill then joined the North Dakota National Guard as a recruiter, here he retired following a 20 plus career in the military.

Bill’s next years were spent managing the Elks and Knights of Columbus clubs in Dickinson and Bismarck. He lived a majority of his life in Dickinson, becoming truly a follower of small town living. He enjoyed golf and bowling. He was a man that was not afraid to take chances and loved the excitement of the unknown. Bill was devoted to his siblings as well as his three daughters. His love for books took him to places unknown and inspired his daughters to do the same.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Erinn (Jamie) Seidel, Bismarck, Alexis Schwartz, Boca Raton, Fla., and Blair Schwartz, Fargo; six grandchildren, TJ, Rylee, Rufai, Meshaal, Keegan, and Katalina; and five siblings, Jack (Joann) Schwartz, Bismarck, Agatha Schwartz, Dickinson, Carl (Shannon) Schwartz, Fargo, Jim (Darlene) Schwartz, Dickinson, and Carol (Doug) Pfau, Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Betty Wock.
