William P. “Bud” Faller, 91, Dickinson, died Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his home. Bud’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Msgr. Thomas Richter as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service.
William P. Faller was born on October 4, 1928 in Dickinson, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Huck) Faller. He was raised and educated in Dickinson and at the time he was in high school it was common for the boys to drop out and join the military or to have the parents sign for them. Bud chose to join the United States Marine Corp where he served honorably for two years before being discharged.
He returned to Dickinson where he was united in marriage to Charlene Zahradnik on April 11, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. He had worked for Dickinson Grocery, Olheiser Construction Company, and under the GI Bill he took training for repair of typewriters, adding and other small machines. He then went to work for Jack Smart and Ron Olney.
He was a city boy who married a farm girl and was made a farmer by his father-in-law. So the rest of his life he spent farming.
He and Charlene enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with the exception of Alaska and Florida. He enjoyed collecting coins, going metal detecting and collecting John Deere tractor toys. He belonged to the Elks, St. Pius Verein, the Eagles, and Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Bud is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughters, Danette (Willard) Gunwall, Dickinson and Nanette (Roger “Skip”) Rapp, Dickinson; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Faller, Fargo; nine grandchildren, Travis (Alicia) Gunwall, Nathan Gunwall, Jason (Becky) Faller, Adam (Jen) Faller, Tyler Rapp, Erin (Elliot) Hitt, Jordan Gunwall, Courtney Evoniuk, Carri (Eric) Brandvik; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pauline Kessel, Dickinson and Marge Robinson, Dickinson; sister-in-law, Lu Faller, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, James; parents; sisters, Rose (Severen) Anderson and Betty Jane Faller; brothers, John (Carmen) and Leo; and brothers-in-law, Ted Kessel and Gene Robinson.
