Rod was born to Stanley and Shirley (Bratten) Geving on June 13, 1953 in Dickinson. The family later relocated to California. While in California, Rod joined the US Army and always spoke fondly of his time stationed in Germany. He was united in marriage to Patricia in August 1983 at Turlock, Calif.
Rod enjoyed hunting, and spending time in the Badlands. He was a big history buff and particularly loved learning all he could about the Civil War. He loved debating politics with anyone who would give him the pleasure, and was always up to speed on all of the current events.
He was a loving family man who enjoyed nothing more than to have them all together as often as possible. He always looked forward to our family’s annual Black Hills, S.D. trips.
Rod is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, Carrie (Matthew) Mitzel, Christina (Patrick) Simonson, and Amber (Nicholas) McClellan, Christopher Geving and Marci (Chris) Conley. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Aiden, Brody, Briar, Samantha, Lynn, Kaylien, Melodie, Alexandra, Rylee and Evan; his mother, Shirley; and two sisters, Rebecca (Gary) Hofer and Nancy (Ben) Jones. And he will be forever missed by his constant companion, a tiny Chihuahua named Izzy. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Steve; and daughter-in-law, Johnnie Rae Geving.
