Clarence B. Dahl, 84, Dickinson, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his home. Funeral Services for Clarence will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Cal Oraw officiating. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the service. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, and will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
Clarence Bernard Dahl was born January 15, 1928 in Williston, the son of Fred and Severina (Sovik) Dahl. He was raised and educated in Alamo, graduating from Alamo High School in 1946. He went on to attend the University of North Dakota, earning a degree in Civil Engineering in 1951. Clarence entered the United States Air Force, and served honorably from 1951 through 1953. Returning from the service, he began his career with the North Dakota State Highway Department as a Civil Engineer, retiring in 1991.
Clarence married Joanne Lein on December 5, 1958 in Regan. They moved to Dickinson in 1960 and have made their home here since. He was a member of St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, the Elks, and the Rotary Club. In his pastime he enjoyed woodworking, photography, fishing, gardening, and crossword puzzles.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Joanne; their three children, Karen Dahl, Rapid City, S.D., Jean (Chris) Ford, Bismarck, and Jim Dahl, Dickinson; two grandsons, Matthew Ford and Erik Ford; and one brother, John Dahl, Williston. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. John Lutheran Trust Fund, or to the DSU Foundation.
