Margaret A. “Muggs” Hanewald, 89, Dickinson, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Margaret’s memorial service will at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Cal Oraw officiating. Interment was at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Margaret A. Honsvall was born September 28, 1922 at Grafton, to Anton and Christine (Hegstad) Honsvall. After completing her public education at Grafton, Margaret attended UND where she received her B.S. Degree. She then taught school for one year before getting married to Walter Hanewald in June 1946 at Minneapolis, Minn. Together they moved to Albany, N.Y. where Walt competed medical school. After medical school, Margaret and Walt moved to Grand Forks where he did his internship. Following the completion of Walt’s internship they moved to Richardton and Walt started his own practice. They lived in Richardton for five years and moved to Dickinson in 1960.

Margaret loved to read, bake, pickle, and knit, but she had a passion for golf; she was later inducted into the North Dakota Women’s Golf Hall of Fame in Jamestown. Margaret was a member of PEO, Dorcas Society, and the Dickinson Country Club.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Walt, Dickinson, one daughter; Karen “Ski” (Gideon) Cook, Minnetonka, Minn.; four grandchildren, Walt (Laurie) Cook and their children, Jack and Emma, Jonathan Cook, Katie (Mark) Phelps, and Christine Cook, and one brother, Ralph Honsvall, Stillwater, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Phillip and Arvid Honsvall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a memorial be given in Margaret’s name to: PEO Chapter AQ, 788 13th St W., Dickinson, ND 58601 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
