Shari Bohnhoff was born on October 7, 1963, the daughter of Donald and Margret Ann (Erickson) Bohnhoff. She grew up on the family farm south of New England in Hettinger County. Shari attended New England Public School and graduated in 1982. She also went on to Bismarck State College and graduated in 1985 with a degree in food preparation.
During college she worked the summers as an assistant cook for Badlands Ministries Bible Camp at Medora. After college Shari worked in Bismarck at the Rax Restaurant, and at the Sheridan Hotel as a cook in their restaurant for a brief period of time, before getting a job in the cafeteria at Medcenter One Hospital. In 1998 Shari moved to Hettinger and began working in the cafeteria at the West River Hospital. The career move lasted 20 years until her health conditions caused her to quit.
In 2009 Shari developed a rare form of ovarian cancer. She survived the cancer, but the chemo treatments were hard on her and destroyed her immune system. Through the following years she had numerous setbacks with infections. Shari had a positive mind during that time saying that “I survived cancer, but these are the side effects I have to deal with.” As her health was declining, Shari moved to Evergreen Assisted Living in Dickinson in 2017. In 2021 Shari moved to St. Luke’s Nursing Home and lived there until moving again to Benedictine Living Community in 2025.
While growing up Shari enjoyed the family camping trips to the Black Hills. Shari was very active in the 4H program; including the foreign exchange program which she spent a summer in Norway with her exchange student. She loved babies and small kids and would volunteer to babysit anytime possible. Shari enjoyed attending weddings, anniversaries, and especially birthday parties. Shari had a way with remembering dates of people’s anniversaries and birthdays. Shari also enjoyed spending time with her friends at work as well as coming back to the farm to spend time with family. She loved baking cookies for the family and playing with the cats.
Shari is survived by her brothers, Sheldon, Dickinson; Robert (Lori), New England; and Darrell (Carolyn), Graham, WA; nephews, Aaron (Megan) Vanstone, Spokane, WA and their children, Grace, Jack and Georgia; and Brian (Katie) Bohnhoff, Lewistown, ID and their children, Layton and Corbin; along with two aunts, one uncle, and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Margret Ann Bohnhoff; grandparents, Louie and Louise Bohnhoff; Jay and Orpha Erickson; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either the Rainy Butte Cemetery Association or the American Cancer Association.
