Beatrice A. “Betty” Kuntz, 92, Dickinson, died on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at St. Luke’s Home, surrounded by her family. Beatrice’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Brandon Wolf as celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Ron Keller presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Friday.

Betty was born on June 10, 1931 in Dunn County, the third oldest daughter of Andrew and Katherine (Heiser) Schwindt. On February 9, 1948, Betty married Leo V. Kuntz. Together they raised two children, David and Doreen. In 1972 Betty and Leo purchased the family homestead three miles west of Dickinson, where they lived until 2012 before moving into Dickinson.  

Betty worked at Montgomery Wards for 19 years until the store closed in 1969, and JC Penny’s for 19 years until she retired in 1993.  After retirement she worked at Christopher and Banks until the store closed. Betty was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick’s Church and St. Benedicts. She also served on St. Patrick’s parish council for ten years. Betty will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, Bridge, Pinochle, and taking her grandchildren’s quarters playing Blitz.

Betty is survived by her daughter: Doreen (Jim) Steckler, Dickinson; daughter-in-law: Kathy Kuntz, Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren: Josh Steckler, Dickinson, Nicole (Chris) Green, Marietta, GA, Brandon (Ashly) Steckler, Bismarck, David Kuntz, Golden, CO, Ben Kuntz, Plano, TX, Luke (Flor) Kuntz, Castle Rock, CO; great-grandchildren: London and Penelope Kuntz, Sofia and Liam Green, Madelyn, Violet and Hazel Steckler: sisters, Mary Stroh, Caroline Dillinger, Delores (Gene) Glaser, and Jeanette (Dick) Stradinger. 

Betty is preceded in death by her husband: Leo V. Kuntz; son: David Kuntz; parents; sisters: Eleanor Murphy, Julia Gunwall; brothers-in-law: Bill Murphy, John Gunwall, Mike Dillinger, and Dan Stroh.
