David “Dave” Dietz, 84, Dickinson, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Inurnment will take place in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, at a later date.

David Dietz was born April 16, 1930 at Dickinson to Fred and Anna (Bray) Dietz. He was raised on a farm along with his nine brothers and six sisters and attended country school near Manning. David served in U.S. Army from February 1953 until being honorably discharged in February 1955. David married Charlene Knaup in 1959 and together they moved to Dickinson where he began working for Husky’s Briquetting Plant and in the oil field. In 1975 they moved to Belfield where he worked driving hot oil trucks for R&R Hot Oil Service. In 1983 they returned to Dickinson and he continued driving truck until retiring in 1992. In 1997 David moved to Harvey where he lived until 2012 when he moved into St. Benedict’s Health Center.

David loved the great outdoors, whether it was gardening, yard work or camping with the grandchildren and family. David also enjoyed playing bingo and cards. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.

David is survived by his six children, David (Jeannie Worthington), Bakersfield, Calif., Darwin (Michelle), Velva, Delven (Victoria), Elkhorn, Nev., Della (Dan) Fugere, Belfield, Dena (Steve) Larson, Fargo, and Dorene (Tom) Gordian, Dickinson, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Carletta Knaup, seven brothers, and four sisters.
