Edwin L. Kadrmas was born June 12, 1935 northeast of Dickinson, the son of Laudie P. and Bessie (Privratsky) Kadrmas. He was raised southeast of Killdeer, having attended country school. Edwin served honorably in the United States Army from June 5, 1957 to May 11, 1959 and during this time he was stationed in Germany.
Edwin returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Irene K. Messer on April 5, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton. They lived in Dickinson for a few years before moving to Gladstone in 1967, where they have made their home since. He had worked as an electrician for 30 years for Royal Oak until its closure. He then purchased a hay hauling truck and thoroughly enjoyed this venture for the next twenty years until his retirement.
He belonged to the Eagles Club and the St. Pius Verein. Growing up he enjoyed singing Czech music and had taught himself to play the accordion and drums. He had played for many weddings and anniversaries. He loved working on cars and was a handy man and could fix anything. He especially enjoyed spending time with the grandkids and great-grandchildren. Telling stories of the early years brought him happiness.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Irene; their children, Denise (Kenny) Huisman, Wilton, Daryl (Ingrid) Kadrmas, Gladstone, Jolene (Dave) Mulske, Gladstone, Kevin Kadrmas, Gladstone, Sandy (Bob Schneider) Kadrmas, Mandan and Renae (Randy) Heidt, Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Rachel (John) Fay, Joseph Mulske, Jessica (Adrian) Grey, Kayla Mulske, Sierra (Chase) Yancy, Samantha Schneider, Dustin Heidt and Dylan Huisman; six great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Martha (Julius) Dukart and Ron (Elaine) Kadrmas, Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Bertha and Dorothy.
