Georgeann Schmidt, 79, of New England, passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer on August 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson. Georgeann’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England with Pastor John Van Haneghan as officiant. Interment will follow at Our Redeemer’s Cemetery, New England. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Georgeann was born on September 9, 1946 to George and Dorothy (Runge) Magelky. She was born with a kind and generous heart and devoted her life to the people and animals she loved. Georgeann graduated from New England High School in 1964. Georgeann spent several years cooking at the bowling alley in New England and was known to make a mean hamburger. Georgeann stayed close to home to help care for her parents. She met Albert Schmidt in 1962, and later began working beside Albert putting up grain bins, and then starting up Scenic Construction. On March 29, 1969 she married the love of her life Albert Schmidt. Together, they built a life filled with family, love and countless cherished memories.
Georgeann and Albert were blessed with two children, daughter, Crystal who was born in 1975, and son, Jason, born in 1981. She was also a proud grandmother of five grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and treasured deeply.
For more than 30 years, Georgeann worked at the New England Creamery, where she delivered milk, ice cream, and frozen foods to local schools, grocery stores, cafés and homes. Through her work, she became a familiar and friendly face in the community. She proudly served ice cream during the burgers in the park events each week during the summer.
Georgeann will be remembered for her kind heart and willingness to help anyone who needed her. She had a special love for animals, especially the many cats that she shared her life with over the years. Her compassion extended to all living things, and her gentle nature touched the lives of many.
Georgeann loved spending time outdoors doing yard work and growing her beautiful petunia flowers. She was an amazing baker, and was famous for her homemade apple pie. She was a very talented seamstress and made many of her own and her family’s clothing. She developed a knack for woodworking, making doll furniture, sewing Carebears, crocheting many afghans, and helping her mom make quilts.
Above all Georgeann cherished her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and all the lives she touched.
Georgeann is survived by her daughter, Crystal (David) Sowell of Belle Fourche, SD; son, Jason (Michele) Schmidt of Gladstone; granddaughters, Emily, Abbygail, Chloe, and Shaylynn; and grandson Mathew. She is also survived by her sister, Marlene M. Wanner; brother, Roger (Meredith) Magelky; brother-in-law, Allen (Arlys) Schmidt; nephews, Scott Wanner, Bill (Erin) Wanner, and Scott (Christa) Schmidt; and niece Jodi (Tony) Olsonawski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Schmidt (2016); her parents, George and Dorothy Magelky, and nephew Brian Wanner.
Her memory will live on in the heart of those who knew and loved her. May she rest peacefully, surrounded by the love she is so freely gave to others throughout her life.
