Helen C. Wilmes, 92, Dickinson, went with the angels, Thursday, December 6, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper, OSB as celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Robert Bohn presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Helen Weinzirl was born August 18, 1926 in Herreid, S.D., the seventh child of Karl and Mary (Stellflug) Weinzirl. She was raised and educated in Herreid, graduating from Herreid High School in 1944. She entered the Cadet Nurse Corp, graduating with an RN degree in 1947.

Helen was united in marriage with Don Wilmes on November 16, 1948 at Herreid. They lived in Glen Ullin and then moved to Washington until 1952 when they returned to North Dakota. Since 1958 they resided in Richardton. Helen moved to Park Avenue Villa, in Dickinson, in October.
She enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, fishing and playing cards. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, and the Richardton Health Care Auxiliary.

After retiring from her nursing career of 31 years, at the Richardton Hospital, she continued to volunteer at the hospital and then at the Richardton Health Center. She also volunteered at the Richardton Taylor Elementary School, and any community activity where help was needed. She became famous for her divinity, which could always fetch a hefty sum at many benefits.

Helen is survived by her five children, Claude (Carol Greenshields), Bismarck, Koleen (Gerald Hoff), Richardton, Wayne (Sandi Kuntz), Aurora, Colo., Lauren (Rosie Kuntz), Richardton, and Neal (Marilyn Greenshields), Golden Valley; 14 grandchildren, Gregg (Maria Goodrich) Wilmes, Erin (Gubby Reiniger) Wilmes, Brent (Pam) Hoff, Wendy (Dustin) Mitzel, Leah (Andy) Campbell, Tara (Matt) Weber, Amber (Rob) Bartz, Wanda (Bryan) Schwab, Mike (Melissa) Wilmes, Chris (Lance) Larsen, Ross (Sara) Wilmes, Christopher (Sara) Wilmes, Erik Wilmes, Lindsey (Ryan) Hahn, 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Jax Campbell; brother, Arnold (Betty) Weinzirl; sister, Liz (Hope) Steele; in-laws, Leona Schneider, John Wilmes and Eileen (Jerome) Gerving; many nieces and nephews; and a very good long time friend and neighbor Florence Erdle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, on January 7, 2013; her parents, mother and father-in-law; siblings, Teresa (John) Weisbeck, Al (Mary) Weinzirl, Charlie (Maggie) Weinzirl, Joe (Ella) Weinzirl, Margaret (Bernard) Nelson, Gertrude (Wilbur) O’Meara, MaryAnn (Bob) Lindauere, and Stella (Ben) Geffre; in-laws, Glen (Margaret) Wilmes, Pauline (Lester) Schonert, Holly Wilmes, Ray (Dorothy) Wilmes, Wilfred (Pauline) Wilmes, Art (Ethlyn) Wilmes, Marion (Paul) Filibeck, Rose Wilmes, Shirley Wilmes and Clarence Schneider.; and two great-grandchildren, Payton Campbell and Elijah Bartz.
