Inez Hamann, 78, Richardton, died surrounded by her family on Friday, August 21, 2026 at CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial for Inez will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Richardton. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a Rosary & Vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Inez Marie Schulz was born May 3, 1948 in Richardton to Frank and Anna (Kuntz) Schulz. She was the seventeenth of eighteen children. She was raised in Richardton where she attended a country school and later attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School. Inez went on to attend and graduate from St. Joe’s Beauty School.
Inez married Merle Hamann on October 2, 1971 in Richardton. They made their home in Dickinson and later moved to Richardton. In their union, they were blessed with five children, Janna, Tara, Tana, Kevin and Kari.
She was a stay at home mom until the youngest set of twins started school. Inez went to work for Schwab Oil for many years. She held various positions at MBI, Stallion Oil, Stark County Courthouse, Amber Waves, and London Pantry. Inez and Merle owned Richardton Ag and Truck as well as Cheers and Beers where she met a lot of new people who quickly became friends. Inez was the neighborhood mom and grandma.
Inez enjoyed canning, baking, cooking, fishing, and an occasional trip to the casino, and visiting family and friends. She especially loved spending time with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Inez is survived by her husband, Merle; children, Tara (Doug Arends) Colgrove, Tana, Kevin (Shaundrea De Marco), and Kari (Cory) Dohrmann; 13 grandchildren, Carsen (Maddie), Denver (Natalie) Colgrove, Shailynn Riley; Jade, Ayzlyn and Kaleb Hamann; Kajren, Caisen and Kanyn Dohrmann; Sierra (Michael) Glanville, Braxtyn (Regan) Hamann, Paetyn Hamann, and Moxxyn Hamann; two bonus grandsons, Ramzy Olson and Kaleb Arends; six great-grandchildren, Mason Baseflug, Sutton, Miller, and McCoy Colgrove, Bentley Hamann, and Hadley Glanville; four sisters, Delores (Elmer) Wiege, Dorothy (Bernie) Buresh, Geraldine Grayson, and Kathleen Lindemann; three brothers, Jim Schulz, Michael (Margaret) Schulz, and Ralph (Alice) Schulz; one brother-in-law, Ralph Messmer; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Inez was preceded in death by her daughter, Janna; her parents, Frank and Anna Schulz; siblings, Viola (Herman) Sand, Elsie (Mathias) Maerschbecker, Alfred (Lorraine) Schulz, Pauline (Albert) Lantz, William (Helen) Schulz, Agnes (Fred) Heidecker, Gladys (Donald) Rummel, Maryann (Charles) Hoff, Bernice Harrington, and Jacqueline Messmer; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
