Janice Lucy (Brydl) Baker, 83, passed away in the early morning of January 21 surrounded by family with the assistance of hospice at St. Catherine’s North in Fargo, ND.
Janice was born in Dickinson, ND on July 23, 1938, the daughter of Jerry and Lucy (Urbanec) Brydl. She attended Catholic boarding school in New Hradec, ND. She then attended public school in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1956. Janice married Lester Baker on July 22, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. They lived in Rapid City, SD and Minot, ND for a short time before settling in Dickinson.
Janice was a very hard worker. During her lifetime she was a waitress, a sales clerk at Streifel’s Clothing Store, clerk and deputy at Stark County Treasurer’s Office which paved the way for her to be the Stark County Treasurer for many years.
Janice was a member of St. Anne and Joachim after moving to Fargo and a previous member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. She was very active in her community. She was a member of the Christian Mother’s Organization, German Hungarian Social Club, Catholic Workman, Red Hat Society, St. Patrick’s School Board, ND County Treasurer’s Association and many others. She enjoyed volunteering with various organizations, talking with friends and family, walking, singing, dancing, traveling, and making people smile. Above all she enjoyed her time that was spent with her children and grandchildren.
Janice is survived by two daughters, Milissa “Missy” (Clint) Miller, Fargo and Melinda “Mindy” (Jim) Kallenbach, Andover MN; one son, Bryan (Lois) Baker, Defiance OH; one brother, Ray Brydl, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Phillip Kallenbach, Samantha (Matt) LaPrade, Katie Kallenbach, Bryant Baker and Britta Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, her parents, Jerry and Lucy Brydl and four siblings, Martha Reisenauer, Wilma Kappel, Laudie Brydl and Larry Brydl.
Janice’s family thanks Hospice Red River Valley and the staff at St. Catherine’s North for their loving compassionate care in her final days.
