John Anton Hoff, Dickinson, entered eternal life Monday, August 27, 2018 at the age of 94. John’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant and Fr. Thomas Wordekemper OSB as con-celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

John Anton Hoff was born December 20, 1923 on the family’s farm five miles south of Richardton. He was the fourth of ten children to John J. and Florence (Fleck) Hoff. John attended a small country school located north of the Heart River.

John’s passion was farming and he always had a strong work ethic. John learned those traits early, when his father died leaving him and his brothers to provide for their mother and younger siblings.

On November 18, 1947, John married Irene Rummel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton. They purchased a farm south of Taylor and it was there they raised their nine children. In 1987 they moved to Dickinson. John’s faith was an important part of his life as he knew his Lord and Saviour. Upon their move to Dickinson, they became members of St. Wenceslaus Church.

John passed away at St. Luke’s Home, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by, Irene, his wife of 70 years; children, Gloria (Harlan) Bloom, Taylor, Linda (Bob) Sprengeler, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Neal (Becki) Hoff, Richardton, Ron (Sue) Hoff, Taylor, John (Jane) Hoff, Billings, Mont., Judy (Larry) Naumann, Taylor, Marilyn (Kent) Schweigert, Bismarck, Russ (JoAnn) Hoff, Dickinson, and Larry Hoff, Dickinson; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Melchior, Bismarck, Geri (Harvey) Baer, Richardton; sisters-in-law, Peggy Rummel, Carrington and Geri Rummel, Fargo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jake and Rosemarie Hoff, Leonard and Leona Hoff; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Louis Steiner, Agnes and Oliver Dallas, Clara and Frank Melchior, Lorraine Hoff, Mary and Joseph Hammerschmidt; brothers-in-law, Marcel Melchior, Lloyd Rummel, Gilbert Rummel, Dale Rummel, and Frank Rummel.
