Josephine A. Schmidt, 92, Dickinson, died on Monday, September 7, 2026 at Benedictine Living Community, Dickinson. Josephine’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Ryan Martire as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil at 6 p.m. with Deacon Leonard Krebs presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass.
Josephine Kubischta was born on February 3, 1934, in Dickinson to Henry and Barbara (Kopp) Kubischta. She was raised and educated in Dickinson through the eighth grade. She lived on a farm north of Dickinson until 1950, when the family moved to town.
Josephine married Arnold Schmidt on October 1, 1957, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. They were blessed with two sons, Allan and Stacy, and later moved to the Schmidt family farm north of Belfield. Together, they farmed and ranched until 2012, when Arnold entered the nursing home. Josephine remained on the farm until 2020, when she became a resident of Benedictine Living Community in Dickinson.
She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Josephine enjoyed gardening and especially loved visiting and spending time with her grandson, Kyle.
Josephine is survived by her sons, Allan Schmidt and Stacy (Melissa) Schmidt; her grandson, Kyle Schmidt; her brother-in-law, Richard Fix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, in 2014; her parents; and her siblings, John (Gladys) Kubischta, Alex (Betty) Kubischta, and Frances Fix.
