Karl Roberts, 85, Dickinson, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Karl’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Tim Privratsky officiating. Interment will follow at Immanuel Cemetery, Taylor. Military honors will follow the service and be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with family present to greet friends at Ladbury Funeral Service, and will continue from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday.

Karl Arthur Roberts was born December 4, 1923, at Mina, S.D., the son of William A. and Evalena (Wimpsett) Roberts. He was raised and educated in Watertown, S.D., having graduated from Watertown High School in 1942.

Karl joined the United States Army and served honorably from February 16, 1943 to his discharge on February 14, 1946. He returned to Watertown and went to work, Karl married Rose Marie Ritz in January of 1949 in Watertown. They moved to Bismarck in the 1950’s where he worked various jobs prior to beginning a career with the postal service. Karl moved to Dickinson in the late 1970’s where he served as the supervisor of mail processing until 1989 when he retired.

Karl married Eileen (Hamann) Cassezza on August 9, 1986 at Taylor, and they have made Dickinson their home. He also owned and operated Collectors Corner from 1996 to 2001. He enjoyed traveling, antiquing, watching all professional sports and old time movies, and cooking.

Karl is survived by his wife, Eileen; three children, Robin (Scooter) Pursley, Bismarck, Debbie Roberts, Bismarck, and William Roberts, Grafton; two step-children, Pamela Frederick, Dickinson, and Brendon Cassezza, Belgrade, Mont.; five grandchildren, Emily and Glen Pursley, Jessica Frederick, Heather (Brent) Splichal, and Harley Frederick; two great-grandchildren, Camron and Kaleigh Frederick; and two brothers, Dale (Delores) Roberts, Watertown, and Don (Dorothy) Roberts, Edgerton, Wisc. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and one brother.
