Mary Bren was born April 30,1936, daughter of Pete and Agnes (Veverka) Bren on the family farm northwest of Dickinson in Dunn County. The youngest of a family of nine, she grew up on the family farm and attended country school.

Mary married Sebastian Klein on September 27, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. Sebastian passed away on September 23, 1973.

She worked the Ramada/Grand Dakota Hotel in Dickinson for 30 years, and at the age of 81, retired due to her health. Mary loved old time music and dancing to polkas. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and also loved to bake and cook. She was thought of as Grandma Mary, and believed when it was her time to go, let her go. Mary always said “Treat other people like you want to be treated”.
