Minnie Pirkl, 94, Dickinson, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson. Minnie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Monday with Deacon Bob Zent presiding.
Philomena Kudrna was born April 22, 1922 at Dickinson, the daughter of Frank and Philomena (Pavlicek) Kudrna. She was raised and educated near South Heart. Minnie was united in marriage to Edward A. Pirkl on November 21, 1939 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Following their marriage they moved to a farm north of Gladstone. In 1951 they moved to Taylor where she worked as a cook for the Taylor Public School for 14 years, and also at the Taylor Nursery.
In 1980 they made a move to Dickinson. When possible she enjoyed shopping, listening to old time music, and making scrap books.
Minnie is survived by three children, Rita (Dave) Halstead, Dickinson, Melvin (Pam Stedham) Pirkl, Dickinson, and Bonnie Vondracek, Livonia, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Shereen, Kim, Robert, Carol, Dionne, Joseph, and Nicole; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Don (Millie) Kudrna, Dickinson, Dorothy Ficek, Dickinson, Eleanore Badinger, Spokane Valley, Wash.; Raymond (Shirley) Kudrna, Overland Park, Kan., Wayne (Rosalie) Kudrna, Dickinson, Bob (Jeanette) Kudrna, Hettinger, Darlene (Bob) Betchner, Mandan, and Delores (Darrold) Raab, Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents; son-in-law, Joseph Vondracek; and siblings and spouses, Mary (Fred) Kostelecky, Vince (Rose) Kudrna, Rose (Pete) Privratsky, Frank Kudrna, Adolph (Margaret) Kudrna, Laudie (Dorothy) Kudrna, Gilbert Kudrna, Margaret (Frank) Fendrick, Andy Ficek, Vern Badinger, and Edward (Julia) Kudrna.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Benedict’s Health Center.
