Otto V. Hochhalter, age 101, Dickinson, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Evergreen Assisted Living in Dickinson. Otto’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Ron Dazell as officiant. Inurnment will take place at Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Otto V. Hochhalter was born on October 18, 1922, the son of Ferdinand and Johanna (Leidtke) Hochhalter. He was raised and educated in New Leipzig.

Otto married Dena Sprecher on March 24, 1946, at the United Methodist Church, Elgin. Together they farmed south of New Leipzig until 1960. The Hochhalter’s owned and operated a grocery store in New Leipzig from 1960 to 1968. In 1971, they moved to Dickinson, where they owned and operated the Exxon Bulk Dealership until 1979.

He enjoyed going fishing and camping, and traveling with Dena, spending their winters in Kerrville, Texas. He was a past member of the New Leipzig City Council and Fire Department, and as did his father, was a member of the New Leipzig School Board.

Otto was preceded in death by his wife, Dena, on November 28, 2005; three brothers, seven sisters; one step-brother; three step-sisters; and one half-sister.

He is survived by his two daughters, Diane (Jerry) Hoffman, New Leipzig, and Donna (Steve) Felkner, Sanger, Texas; two sons, Daryl (Brenda), Post Falls, ID, and Dean (Randi), Shakopee, MN; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister.
