Rose Mischel was born at midnight March 7, 1922, at her Aunt Mary’s home in Dickinson, the daughter of George and Rose (Krank) Mischel. She was raised and attended school in the Hirschville area.
Rose married Lowell Schiltz on January 27, 1941 at St. Phillips Catholic Church, Hirschville. They spent their first year together in Palmer, Alaska, and returned to North Dakota in 1942. They farmed north of Taylor and Gladstone until 1946, when they moved to Gladstone to operate the Schiltz Garage, and Rose was busy raising their four children. In 1969 the family moved to Dickinson where over the next 38 years she worked as a nurses aide, doing housekeeping and hairdressing at either St. Benedict’s Health Center or Mischel-Olson Chapel.
Rose loved to raise a big garden and to bake, with many people being given wonderful produce or baked goods. She belonged to many church organizations. Rose cherished family gatherings and the opportunity to cook and bake for everyone. Her pickles and cinnamon twists were always a wonderful treat. “God bless her loving and giving heart”.
Rose is survived by her four children, Lester (Grace) Schiltz, Beulah, Darlene (Bruce) Gilmour, Arizona, Aleta (Ron) Hendricks, Dickinson, and Leon (Pat) Schiltz, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bobbie (Arnold) Rummel, Dickinson and Esther Wendorf, Wayzata, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, LaVonne Mischel, Dickinson and Betty Mischel, St. Paul, Minn.; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
