Sue Thomas, 92, Dickinson, died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Sue’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jeff Zwack as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Jerry Volk presiding.
Susanna “Sue” Thomas was born August 10, 1918 in Gladstone, the daughter of Stephen and Julia (Lefor) Dassinger. She was raised on a farm south of Gladstone and attended schools in the Gladstone and Dickinson areas.
Sue married Joseph “Joe” Thomas on October 6, 1942. Sue and Joe celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2010.
Sue enjoyed dancing, gardening, cooking and sewing. She often prepared family favorites which included: plum dumplings, homemade noodles, rosettes, strudel and many other special recipes. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Sue’s quilts provided warmth and comfort to many family members.
She was an avid “I Love Lucy” fan and took pride in her teacup collection. Sue was a member of Christian Mothers, and was a volunteer for many years with Meals on Wheels. She was a soft-spoken woman who led her family with quiet strength.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four daughters: Joyce (Bryan) Olson, MaryAnn (Mitch) Chaska, Peggy (Jim) O’Brien, and JoLynn (Lee) Magstadt; her grandchildren: Jason (Karissa) Hassebrock, Blaine (Sheila) Hassebrock, Julie (Dana) Olson-Martin, Bethany Olson, Leslie (David) Wilkie, Brian Chaska, Amanda Kubik, Matthew Kubik, Amy Magstadt, Nathan Magstadt; her seven great-grandchildren; sister Clarine (Herb) Urlacher; and sister-in-law Helen Dassinger. Preceding her in death by 27 days was her husband Joe; her parents, her sisters Ann Willer and Carolyn Schneider and her brother Tony Dassinger.
