Valentine Stockert, 88, Dickinson, died peacefully, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. Val’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Tuesday with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.
Valentine “Val” Stockert was born March 1, 1930 on the family farm southwest of New England, the son of Dominick and Agnes (Reisenauer) Stockert. He was raised and educated in the New England area.
Val married the love of his life, Evangeline “Angie” Frank, on September 5, 1951. Together they raised nine children in Dickinson. While raising their children, Val worked various jobs which included the Briquetting Plant, Pete’s Garage, Sears Rosebuck & Co. and started Val’s Sanitation in 1957. He sold the business to the youngest son, Alvin in 1982, which is still operating as Val’s Sanitation today. He then started Val’s Tree Farm until retiring in 2013, when both Val and Angie moved to Evergreen. Then in June, Val made his new home at St. Luke’s.
Val was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Anthony’s, Elks, KC and Eagles Clubs and St. Pius Verein in Schefield.
Val loved working at Sears as a salesman and running Val’s Sanitation with his sons and enjoyed tending his tree farm in his earlier days. But most of all, he and Angie loved to travel and go on vacation with family and friends.
After retirement, they loved to go for coffee and meeting with friends, he also loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards and bingo at Evergreen as well as their outings in the surrounding areas. Val loved visiting with company and sharing so many of his treasured memories.
Val is survived by his six children, Lillian (Doug) Homstad, Bismarck, Lyle (Diane) Stockert, Vivian (Dan) Caylor, Virginia Sticka, Alvin (Tammy) Stockert, Julian (Don) Gerber, all of Dickinson; daughters-in-law, Deb Stockert, Dickinson, and Linda Stockert, Great Falls, Mont.; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alex, Raymond (Millie), Edward (Ann), Larry (Jodi) Stockert, Irene (Pete) Heidt; sister-in-law, Jean Stockert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Angie, on July 16, 2013; sons, Valery, (twins) Larry and Gary; son-in-law, David Sticka; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Homstad) Barrera; his parents; infant brother, Valentine; brothers, Martin and Eugene Stockert; sister-in-law, June Stockert; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
