Victor M. Goetz, 80, Dickinson formerly of Richardton died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Victor’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 27, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday at the church, with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m.. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Victor was born July 25, 1928 on the family farm south of Richardton, the son of Nick and Rose (Reith) Goetz. He was raised and educated in the Richardton area. Victor married Bernice Hamann on October 12, 1953 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, south of Richardton. They farmed south of Richardton until 1962 when they moved into town and took over the Ponderosa Bar and Café. During this time he also worked for Richardton Farm Equipment, Schwab Oil and other farm related jobs.
Victor played baseball in his younger days, was an avid bowler, loved to play pinochle and go bowling. He took great joy in sponsoring and supporting local softball teams. Victor took great pride and joy in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Victor is survived by his eight children, Linda (Ed) Keeler, Dickinson, Vicki (Walt) Crandall, Dickinson, Janice (Keven) Martin, Bismarck, Donna (Chuck) Arnold, Richardton, Glenda (Scott) Schatz, Dickinson, Rich (Dalene) Goetz, Gillette, Wyo., Ron (Kim) Goetz, Gilbert, Ariz., and Kelly Goetz, Dickinson; grandchildren, Nicole (Nick), Jayme, Michelle, Jeremy (Nicole), Travis (Jessy), Casey (Heather), Preston, Dauntae, Amanda (Jake), Kris, Kody, Chris, Austin, Kaylyn, Sydnee, Gavin, Jessica, Hunter and Remington; great-grandkids, Desiree, Cassidy, Coulter and Mariah; great-great-grandchild, Caeden; two sisters, Adeline Erdle, Richardton, and June (Gary) Leavitt, Arizona; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice (Bob) Portscheller, Bonnie (Vic) Demaniow, Marvin (Emma) Hamann and Merle (Inez) Hamann; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice on March 20, 2000; his parents; three brothers; three sisters, son-in-law, Dave Grossman; and a granddaughter, Erica Goetz.
