Helen Hensel, 89, Dickinson, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Thomas Grafsgaard as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Lefor. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

Helen Cathryn Jordan was born September 27, 1927 on the family farm near Lefor, the daughter of Marcus and Anna (Hipp) Jordan, Sr. She was raised and educated in the Lefor area.

Helen married Nicholas “Nick” Hensel on June 6, 1946 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. Together they farmed and raised their family two miles south of Lefor. Helen and Nick remained on the farm, retiring in 1984 when they moved to Dickinson. Helen’s husband Nick died on May 10, 2007.

Helen belonged to the Christian Mothers of Lefor, and St. Pius Verein. She volunteered at St. Benedict’s Health Center for eight years. Helen enjoyed gardening, dancing, attending the Polka Fest, playing bingo and casino gambling trips.

Helen is survived by her three children, Art (Pat) Hensel, Dickinson, Kathy (Paul) Pfiefle, Bismarck, and Brenda Medeiros, Bismarck; five grandchildren, Paula (Brad) Brosseau, LaDeana (Delbert) Glaser, Jason Pfiefle, LaDonna (Mark) Glaser, and LaDella (Devin) Carlson; and nine great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Austin, Alexander, Gage, Benett, Kate, Jake, Max and Brynlee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and seven siblings Joseph, Arthur, George, Joseph Peter, Frank, Marcus Jr., and Arthur Peter Nicholas.
